Last week there was a murder in Hartford, the 11th of the year in that city of 125,000. This was what a visitor to the courant.com site saw when accessing the site that afternoon:

Notice, the top Hartford story is the potential redevelopment of a parking lot and the Hartford murder isn’t even the top “breaking news” story.

Yesterday in Springfield, a city of 155,000, there was an armed robbery. This is the front page at Masslive.com, the primary online vehicle for Springfield’s paper of record, The Republican:

Here is the text of that FEATURED story:

Quite a feature. Really paints a picture…that with “only 5” (ooh, 8 if you add an accidental shooting and two people killed by a drunk driver!) murders this year Masslive will do whatever it takes to keep Springfield violence front and center.
