If a casino development does come to Springfield, who stands to lose? I think it could be the opening salvo of a renewed conflict for hegemony in the valley. Springfield just might reclaim retail supremacy from declining regional malls and strip malls, and that could tip the scales in favor of the downtown in the competition of “all against all” for commercial space.
