A Little Perspective

On Saturday downtown Springfield hosted at least 5 events attracting approximately 15,000 people to the MassMutual Center, Symphony Hall, and CityStage.

Traffic? I’m sure there were cars on the road, on street parking spaces were few and far between, but 7,331 fans managed to watch Umass beat BYU, another 3,500 saw the Falcons beat the Wolfpack, 2,000 enjoyed the Springfield Symphony’s holiday concert, a “full house” was in the Exhibition Hall to see the ESPN Billiard Shootout, and the Drama Studio was performing Pinocchio at CityStage.

I’m sure a few other things were happening too, some visitors to the Quadrangle, the Armory, and the Hall of Fame perhaps.

No Armageddon, not a peep on the news about the chaos which one might assume would ensue.

Cities were made to handle traffic. And people. The more the better I say! Bring on MGM’s “disastrous traffic headaches”.
